I did it Eli!
On the highway between Trinidad and Eureka, Jeff stops his car on the shoulder and offer us to stay at his place in Eureka for night. Many years ago, he has cross the US on his bike and is since always willing to help dirty, hungry and tired bikers like us. In the morning, the rain is back. Oh I forgot to tell you about my one dollar rain poncho a wear now since it is my only alternative to stay a little bit dry. With the plastic bags on my feet and my hands, Amélie calls my plastic-bag-man!
By chance, the wind is pushing us strongly which help us to forgive the rain. At the entry of the Humboldt Redwoods, we test our new burner, a perforated tuna can we made and in which we burned denaturalized alcohol. It works surprisingly well. It is our first hot meal in a while.
That night, we camp in one the most beautiful place we have ever pitch the tent, at the ruth of two giant trees. We even have a shed for our bikes ( the empty trunk of a giant tree). You must see this video Redwoods camping spot.
The next day we have to climb Leggett. It is not has bad as people tell. We decide to camp on top of the mountain. In the morning, we meet Melville on the top of the mountain. Mel is a nice, generous and easygoing American guy who started his bike trip in Toffino and who is planning to get to La Paz, Mexico. He is so nice that we gonna bike with him all the way to San Francisco, shearing motel, meals and all these great moments on our bikes. Here is the rest of the trip showed in video and pictures.
(Little story by Mel at the end of the movie)
